well in my case life gave me straws.I really thought that straws would be an awesome thing to work with. They bend, they are colorful and you can melt them. Well. They aren't easy as you might first think. Infact; they are really annoying to work with. They like the shape they are already in. They dont like being twisted, so they refuse to co-operate. They are like really curly hair that now matter how much you straighten it, after a little bit of time complying with how you want them to be, the boing back. And I'll tell you why. Its because they are happy the way they are. Which is admirable when it comes to people. Annoying when its inanimate objects that you have to make stuff out of! In class today I kept a log of how it was to play with them. I thought it would be interesting to look back on the class and how much time was spent
on which parts of the project. SO here goes.
Monday March 22nd.
3.57pm: I don't have any A3 paper with me. I really should get some. Thank goodness Art Stretchers is right next to my building!
4.01pm: Get off at floor 5, wrong floor. Figures. Really should have written this down. Maybe its the 6th floor. Yep, that sounds about right.
4.03pm: Geez RMIT elevators are really slow.
4.05pm: Yep. I'm late. But I heard the other day that if you are within 15minutes late you are not reeeally late, just detained. 20+ mins however, you are definitely late. *phew*
4.10pm: Leave to go and get stuff for the in class project. Oops, I completely spaced that I had to bring stuff today. Oh well. Thankfully I live approximately a 3 minute walk from Blg.51. Race home, get anything. Remember that I have
straws, that will be fun. [If only i knew!]
4.20pm: Get back, start creating. Exploring my material...start noticing its a bit of a fail, but I wont let it get me down, it may turn out to be
awesome!
5.44pm: Stop creating. So, at first I thought that was going to be too long, but in actuality it was not long enough. Man, these straws are difficult! We go around the table, and see what everyone else is doing. Little army man, popsicle sticks, pegs, spoons, make-up pads, plastic chopsticks. So many different things going on. Interesting what people are coming up with, esp. the people that have the same object as someone else, yet they come up with totally different things. so cool. So creative.
6.00pm: Yay a break!
6.20pm: Some people start working on their
shoe. That will be a fun project. *Reminder: Emily Buy a shoe!* This is when i keep working with my straws. Need to come up with something that is wearable art, ie: jewelry.
